In a written message released on Sunday, August 30, 2026, marking six months since the onset of the devastating war in West Asia, Khamenei emphasized the critical need for solidarity in the face of what he identified as the "real enemy." This significant declaration comes as Iran navigates complex regional dynamics and faces intensified U.S. sanctions, which have severely impacted the nation's economy.
Khamenei, who assumed power shortly after his father, Ali Khamenei, was killed at the war's outset on February 28, has yet to make a public appearance, with no video or audio released since his appointment. This absence has added a layer of intrigue to his powerful message.
Speaking as Shia Muslims commemorated the Prophet Mohammed's birthday, the Supreme Leader stated,
The solution to the problems of the Islamic nations is unity of words, friendship, and cooperation on the path of goodness.
He sternly warned against any actions that could foster division, asserting that "Anyone, in any position, who does anything that leads to division among Muslims and creates conflict in the Muslim community, knowingly or unknowingly, intentionally or unintentionally, has served the purpose of the enemies of Islam." This statement, according to his official website, underscores the gravity of the current geopolitical climate.
Khamenei's direct admonition to regional rulers was to "recognise your real enemy, understand its plan, and confront it," explicitly pointing to the U.S. and Israel. During the ongoing conflict, Iran has reportedly targeted U.S. military bases across several West Asian nations, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain, leading to significantly soured relations with these countries.
