PV Sindhu Returns Home to Bengaluru After Dubai Stranding
Indian badminton star PV Sindhu returns to Bengaluru from Dubai after a tense layover amid Gulf tensions, thanking ground staff and authorities as she plans her next steps.
Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu has touched down in Bengaluru, returning home after a tense, uncertain spell in Dubai. She was en route to Birmingham for the All England Championships when Gulf airspace closures forced her to pause travel, leaving her and her team stranded as regional tensions escalated. In a post on X, Sindhu shared that she was back in the city and safe, marking the end of a difficult chapter and the start of some much-needed rest.
She and her Indonesian coach, Irwansyah Adi Pratama, were among more than 213 travelers who eventually resumed their journey as services gradually restarted. Sindhu expressed heartfelt thanks to the ground teams, Dubai authorities, airport staff, immigration officials, and everyone who stepped up during the crisis, noting that their empathy and professionalism meant more than words could say. She described the experience as intense and uncertain, especially after an explosion near her place of stay, which she called a extremely tense and scary moment for her and her team.
The disruption came as part of broader regional tensions following the U.S. and Israeli bombing of Iran, with Iran retaliating and Dubai being affected. With travel returning to normal, Sindhu said it was time to rest, reset, and figure out the next steps in her schedule. The episode serves as a reminder of how fragile normal life can be for travelers in conflict zones, even for a globally recognized athlete preparing for major competitions.
Sindhu’s return is celebrated by fans as she begins the process of regrouping and planning her next moves in a season that will still demand peak performance and resilience from one of badminton’s most storied figures.
