Rachel, has made headlines by pledging a significant $1 million donation to the Palestine Children's Relief Fund.
This generous act matches a similar pledge made by musician Macklemore, further escalating the conversation around celebrity involvement in aid for Palestine.
Accurso's announcement came via Instagram, where she explicitly called on other "wealthy white celebrities" to match her and Macklemore's donations and speak out against what she termed the "genocide in Gaza." She emphasized the moral obligation to use privilege and platforms to protect children and human rights, highlighting that over 20,000 Palestinian children have reportedly been killed.
Macklemore's initial $1 million donation, which he announced on Wednesday, followed a contentious period that saw him removed from Ed Sheeran's Loop tour. His pledge is to be distributed among six organizations dedicated to Palestinian aid, including the Palestine Children's Relief Fund, HEAL Palestine, and the United Nations Relief Work Agency USA.
Macklemore's public statements have consistently aimed to draw attention to the plight of Palestinians in Gaza, asserting that "Palestinian lives are worth protecting."
The controversy surrounding Macklemore's removal from Sheeran's tour erupted after he publicly expressed "Free Palestine" sentiments and spoke about the devastation in Gaza during his opening acts in New Jersey. He claimed his pro-Palestinian views led to his removal from the remaining eight shows, with reports suggesting pressure from New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, who allegedly pushed venue owners to prevent Macklemore's performances.
Ed Sheeran later issued a public statement, indicating he tried to mediate with stadium owners but was ultimately forced to choose between removing Macklemore or risking the cancellation of his entire tour.
Sheeran noted his reluctance to use his platform for politics, citing his young audience, but acknowledged Macklemore's conviction.
Following this, several other supporting acts, including Finneas and Lukas Graham, also withdrew from Sheeran's tour in solidarity with Macklemore and in support of a Free Palestine, citing concerns over artist suppression.
