Apocalyptic Dust Storm Turns Bikaner Into Night: Rajasthan Weather Alert

Imagine looking out your window in the middle of the afternoon and seeing the world turn pitch black. That is exactly what happened in Rajasthan’s Bikaner as a massive, "apocalyptic" dust storm swept through the region. Viral videos show a terrifying wall of yellow and red dust advancing toward the city, literally swallowing buildings and plunging the area into near-darkness within minutes.

This dramatic weather event is all part of a larger shift in the state's climate right now. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a western disturbance is currently influencing the region. Over the last 24 hours, several parts of Rajasthan have already been hit by strong thunderstorms and rainfall. Dholpur district took the brunt of it, recording a high of 58 mm of rain.

The weather office isn't expecting things to calm down just yet. Forecasters say thunderstorms, dust storms, and rain are likely to continue across Bikaner, Jaipur, Ajmer, Bharatpur, Kota, Jodhpur, and Udaipur for the next four to five days. We are talking about strong winds reaching speeds of 60 to 70 kmph, along with the possibility of hailstorms and lightning in some isolated spots.

While the dust storm looked like a scene from a disaster movie, there is a bit of a silver lining. This shift in weather is bringing some much-needed relief from the intense heatwave that has been baking the state. Maximum temperatures are finally expected to dip below 44°C in most areas, providing a break for residents who have been dealing with extreme heat.

But it's not just Rajasthan that needs to keep an eye on the sky. The IMD has warned that this dust storm is tracking well beyond the desert and is expected to sweep across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) within a matter of hours.
