Karnataka CM Meets Rahul Gandhi Amid Nagendra Row & Cabinet Buzz

Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar recently held crucial discussions with the Congress party's central leadership, including Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, in Delhi. The high-level meeting primarily addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding Planning and Statistics Minister B.

The discussions come amidst the Opposition's sustained demand for Nagendra's exit, particularly in light of a request for prosecution sanction by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). However, the Congress party's internal assessment suggests that the Governor is yet to grant similar sanctions in cases involving Union Minister H.D.

Renukacharya. Party sources indicate that the BJP's aggressive stance against Nagendra, an ST leader, is perceived as political maneuvering aimed at protecting their own ST leader and former Minister B. Sriramulu.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, while speaking in Kalaburagi, stated he was unaware of any imminent changes or proposals regarding the Cabinet. He underscored that any decisions concerning ministerial appointments, portfolio reallocations, or cabinet reshuffles fall strictly under the purview of the central leadership and would require his consultation.

This statement has kept speculation about Nagendra's future and broader cabinet alterations alive.

Beyond Nagendra's issue, the meeting also touched upon other critical party matters, including the induction of a woman into the Cabinet.

With four women reportedly being considered for one potential slot, various combinations are being weighed by the leadership.

The gathering also saw a group of approximately ten Congress legislators heading to Delhi, reportedly seeking "honourable posts" within the party or government, further indicating a period of internal churn and strategizing within the Karnataka Congress.
