AI Will Touch Every Indian: Roadmap Outlined at Impact Summit

At the India Today AI Summit 2026, Jitin Prasada, Minister of State for IT and Commerce, described AI as a transformational force that will touch every citizen—from students to senior citizens. India is now the third-largest AI penetration market globally, buoyed by a demographic dividend of 600 million youth eager to drive innovation. The roadmap centers on integrating AI into education, accelerating skilling, and ensuring inclusive growth as AI scales.
But scale brings risks. The government is consulting stakeholders on misinformation, deepfakes, cyber threats, and platform accountability to keep AI safe, transparent, and trusted.
Executives from major groups used the summit as a platform to identify and hire promising young engineers, signaling that AI-driven demand for talent is mapping onto the real world.
A conversation with Bipul Sinha, CEO of Rubrik, framed AI as both a 100x opportunity and a 100x risk, underscoring the need for disciplined execution and robust guardrails, including data security and real-time safeguards. He stressed that without digital trust and governance, AI’s promise cannot be realized.
Ramesh Raskar, of the MIT Media Lab, spoke about a citizen-centric future where every Indian could have a personal AI agent, similar to Aadhaar, assisting with daily needs. He illustrated how decentralized AI agents could coordinate travel, food, and health preferences, democratizing access to services at scale—even for rural residents—by interfacing with platforms like open digital marketplaces.
