Britney Spears Faces DUI Charge in Ventura County
Prosecutors may offer Britney Spears a wet reckless plea in a Ventura County DUI case; arraignment set for May 4 as rehab progress is noted.
Britney Spears is facing a misdemeanor DUI charge in Ventura County after a March traffic stop. Police said the pop star’s BMW was seen driving erratically at a high rate of speed, and Spears submitted to field sobriety tests before being arrested. She was booked around three in the morning and released a few hours later.
Prosecutors in the county plan to offer a plea deal known as a “wet reckless,” a resolution commonly used for first-time DUIs when there is no crash and the driver has little or no prior DUI history. If Spears accepts the deal, she would plead to reckless driving involving alcohol and/or drugs, with a likely sentence including about 12 months of probation, fines and fees, completion of a DUI class, and credit for time spent in custody.
Spears has previously voluntarily entered rehab, and authorities say such self-motivation to address underlying issues can influence the plea process. The arraignment is scheduled for Monday, May 4 at 9 a.m. PT, with her attorney able to appear on her behalf. A representative for Spears did not immediately respond to comment.
