Stalin condemns unrest in the name of spirituality over Deepam row in Madurai
TN CM Stalin condemns attempts to sow unrest in the name of spirituality over the Karthigai Deepam row in Madurai, urging peace and development.
During a ceremony in Madurai, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin condemned attempts to spark unrest in the name of spirituality around the Karthigai Deepam lighting at Thirupparankundram Subramaniya Swamy Temple and the Deepa Mandapam at Uchchipillayar Temple. The ritual was lit at its usual place this year as well, he noted, and asked why controversy was being manufactured.
Speaking at the inauguration of completed projects in Madurai, he argued that spirituality should bring peace of mind and unity, not divisions for political gain. "Spirituality is meant to ensure peace and unity among people," he said, criticising those who try to use religious sentiment for cheap politics.
Stalin claimed his government has consecrated more than 3,000 temples and contended that Tamil Nadu is progressing with unprecedented growth, even as opponents try to hinder development with what he called 'riot-mongering' tactics. He warned that political opponents might attempt to create hurdles from Delhi or manipulate the Governor, but asserted the state would endure and move forward as the No.1 state in India.
People who visited the temples had darshan peacefully before returning home, he noted, and urged true devotees to distinguish spirituality from politics.
While the opposition, including the BJP, denounces the row, the chief minister's message remains clear: peace, progress, and unity must prevail in Tamil Nadu.
