Times Square Horror: Bank of America VP Killed in Random Stabbing

A vibrant Monday afternoon in Times Square tragically turned into a scene of horror as a 32-year-old Bank of America Vice President, Erin Piacenti, was fatally stabbed in an unprovoked attack. The assailant, a woman wielding two knives, was subsequently shot dead by police after injuring another man in the bustling Midtown Manhattan district.

The chaotic incident unfolded rapidly, beginning around 4:24 PM local time. According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, the initial 911 calls reported a woman with two knives attacking people along Seventh Avenue. Police believe the violence started near West 41st Street and Seventh Avenue, where the suspect first approached a 68-year-old man who had just exited the subway.

A witness described seeing the attacker remove two knives from a red Target bag before stabbing the man in his abdomen.

He is currently stable at Bellevue Hospital.

The attacker then continued her rampage north on Seventh Avenue towards 42nd Street, where she encountered Erin Piacenti. Piacenti, a valued Bank of America employee, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Mayor Zohran Mamdani confirmed that both Piacenti and the suspect died after being taken for medical attention.

Authorities have labeled the attack "unprovoked" and "random," noting that the stabbings occurred within approximately 20 seconds of each other. The NYPD also indicated that the suspect had a history of mental health issues, adding a complex layer to the tragic event.

Bank of America released a statement expressing profound sorrow:

We are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our colleague. She was a valued teammate who will be greatly missed. Our hearts go out to her family and all of her loved ones.
