Political tensions have flared in Kannur, Keralam, following an alleged attack on the Koothuparamba block Congress committee office late Wednesday night. Unidentified individuals reportedly targeted the office, causing damage to windowpanes and a portrait of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi displayed inside.
Congress leaders have strongly condemned the incident, alleging that workers of the CPI(M) are responsible for the vandalism. However, these allegations have not been independently verified by authorities.
The office, located conveniently near the Koothuparamba municipality office, is now a scene of an active police investigation.
Following a formal complaint lodged by Congress office-bearers, the Koothuparamba police have registered a case. Officers are currently examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area in an effort to identify and apprehend those involved in the attack. In response to the escalating situation, police security has been significantly increased in the locality to prevent any further outbreaks of violence or unrest.
This incident is not isolated, as the region has recently witnessed other instances of political friction.
Separately, there were reports of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) activists allegedly attacking the car of Kerala Minister OJ Janeesh, also in Kannur. These events underscore a period of heightened political sensitivity and conflict in the district, prompting calls for calm and diligent law enforcement.
