Bengaluru techie booked after road-rage attack on family of three

Bengaluru: A 23-year-old software professional has been arrested on charges of attempting to murder after a road-rage incident at a signal near MS Ramaiah Hospital junction on New BEL Road. Sukruth Gowda, who lives in Balaji Layout, Kodigehalli, and works at a Whitefield software firm, was taken into custody after CCTV footage allegedly captured him overtaking the scooter from the left, brushing against it, and then ramming his car into the two-wheeler carrying Ankita Patel, 33, her husband Vineet, and their son. The attack left the family members injured, with the father later needing additional treatment at a different hospital. The incident was initially registered as a hit-and-run, but the manner of impact suggested an intentional act. A fresh case was registered with Sadashivanagar police as investigators pursued the vehicle and gathered statements.

The victims were taken to MS Ramaiah Hospital; Ankita and her son were discharged, while Vineet was shifted to St. John’s for further care. The attack occurred around 7:20 pm, a time when Bengaluru’s traffic can be dense and unpredictable. The accused reportedly harbored anger over a perceived lack of space for his car at the signal and followed the scooter after the initial contact. While the motive beyond the clash over space remains unclear, the case highlights concerns about road safety and road-rage violence in the city. CCTV footage and subsequent actions helped in the swift identification of the suspect, who was remanded to judicial custody. Officials emphasized the need for restraint on city roads and acknowledged witnesses who came forward. As Bengaluru continues to grapple with traffic pressures, this incident may prompt discussions on stricter enforcement and public awareness around road safety.
