IRCTC Smashes Booking Records! Over 2 Million Tickets in a Day! 🤯
Indian Railways sets new history! IRCTC recorded over 2 million ticket bookings in a single day, fueled by festive demand & major system upgrades. Discover how tech is revolutionizing travel!
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has achieved an unprecedented milestone, recording its highest-ever single-day ticket booking with over two million reservations on September 7. This remarkable feat comes amid the bustling festive season demand, showcasing the robust capabilities of India's railway system.
On September 7, a staggering 2,006,353 tickets were booked, significantly surpassing the previous peak of 1,840,203 tickets recorded during last year's festive period.
The momentum continued on September 8, with another impressive 1,950,699 bookings, demonstrating a consistent surge in demand.
A significant 89% of all reserved railway tickets are currently booked online.
This highlights the critical role and increasing reliance on IRCTC's Next Generation e-Ticketing (NGeT) system, especially during the crucial Advance Reservation Period (ARP). Interestingly, while the first 15 minutes of the booking window (8:00-8:15 am) consistently see the highest concurrent demand, only about 8.43% to 14.14% of the day's total bookings are completed in the first hour, with the majority successfully processed later in the day.
This record-breaking volume is not merely a reflection of increased demand but also a testament to a series of strategic upgrades implemented within the ticketing system. IRCTC officials confirmed that these enhancements included a comprehensive overhaul of the NGeT infrastructure, the introduction of a new, intuitive user interface, and the deployment of advanced measures to combat automated bot traffic.
These improvements have collectively doubled the overall system capacity, ensuring greater reliability and efficiency.
A beta version of IRCTC's redesigned user interface was launched on July 15, aiming to provide a more streamlined and user-friendly booking experience.
This new interface now conveniently displays availability across various classes, including Sleeper, AC 3 Tier, and AC 2 Tier, all on a single screen, making travel planning much easier for passengers. Furthermore, the railways introduced sophisticated anti-bot and Content Delivery Network (CDN) capabilities, which have successfully reduced malicious automated traffic by an impressive 55% to 65% in recent months.
To ensure fair access for all users during the opening reservation window, authorized ticketing agents are strictly prohibited from booking ARP tickets during the first ten minutes. This achievement underscores IRCTC's commitment to enhancing passenger experience through continuous technological innovation, effectively managing the massive demand for railway travel, particularly during peak seasons.
