Bollywood sensation Ranveer Singh has officially started shooting for his highly anticipated new film, 'Pralay,' in Mumbai. This ambitious project is described as a large-scale post-apocalyptic survival thriller, placing Ranveer at the heart of a world grappling with an apocalyptic catastrophe. The film marks one of Ranveer's significant ventures following the success of his 'Dhurandhar' films.
Directed by Jai Mehta, son of acclaimed filmmaker Hansal Mehta, 'Pralay' promises a gripping narrative. Jai Mehta previously co-directed 'Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story' with his father. The movie’s backdrop is Mumbai itself, with makers opting to shoot at live locations in and around the city to bring an authentic feel to its apocalyptic setting.
At its core, 'Pralay' is a profound journey of survival, courage, and the unwavering instinct to fight for what truly matters when everything known begins to crumble. Hansal Mehta, who is also a producer on the film through True Story Films, along with Sahil Saigal, shared insights into the project. He revealed that Jai had been developing the idea for a considerable time. Ranveer Singh's impression of Jai's directorial work led to the pitch, and the superstar's conviction and commitment were instrumental in bringing 'Pralay' to fruition.
Hansal Mehta emphasized the unprecedented scale of the post-apocalyptic world being created for 'Pralay' in Indian cinema. He highlighted the extensive development process, which involved not just writing but also shaping ideas, visualization, and successfully pitching them to a star and studio. He clarified that 'Pralay' is an original story, penned by Jai Mehta and Vishal Kapoor, not an adaptation.
Adding to the star power, Malayalam actor Kalyani Priyadarshan will also feature in a pivotal role. The film boasts a reported budget of around Rs 300 crore, signifying its grand scale. Besides his acting duties, Ranveer Singh is also involved as a producer through his banner, Maa Kasam Films. The film is also co-produced by Ananya Birla’s Birla Studios, rounding out a powerful team behind this cinematic spectacle.
