Diallo backs Carrick as Man United boss amid Maguire contract extension

Amad Diallo has publicly backed caretaker Michael Carrick to be the club's permanent manager, speaking at a four-day training camp in the Republic of Ireland. "From a personal view he's the right man... He has a lot of experience; he knows the club and has the DNA. His relationship with every player is very good. It's not the players who decide but my honest opinion is we're really happy to have Michael Carrick as a manager," Diallo said.

Carrick has guided United to seven wins and just one defeat in 10 matches, and the task now is to secure four wins and a draw from seven remaining fixtures to return the club to the Champions League after a two-year absence. While the club has vowed not to rush into a final decision, options have narrowed with Thomas Tuchel committing to England and Roberto De Zerbi linking with Tottenham, leaving United without firm alternatives in the short term.

Bryan Mbeumo added his voice to the support, saying Carrick’s familiarity with the club has made it easier for players to adapt and learn under him: "He knows how to talk to us and we’re going to try to take as much as we can from him. It’s been easier because he knows the place. It’s been great to work under him."

Away from the dugout, Manchester United announced Harry Maguire had signed a one-year contract extension, with an option for a further year, after his improved form under Carrick. The move reinforces the club’s plan to build stability around a squad that has shown signs of renewed cohesion during the interim spell.

With the season entering its final stretch, United’s leadership appears prepared to let the current run shape their long-term thinking, hoping Carrick can sustain the momentum and guide the team back to Europe’s top competition.
