A 40-year-old Deepti Chaurasia, the daughter-in-law of Kamla Pasand, a prominent pan masala group owner, was found dead at her south Delhi residence on Wednesday after being rushed to Safdarjung hospital where doctors pronounced her dead. She and her husband had been living in two separate homes amid ongoing disputes in the family, with the incident taking place in Vasant Vihar.
Police recovered a diary in which the deceased described multiple instances of abuse by her husband and in-laws. Her brother, Rishabh, said she had faced domestic violence and had learned of her husband’s affairs, noting that she had grown tired of the abuse. He cautioned that it was not yet clear whether she died by suicide or was killed, but urged for justice as the investigation continues.
The family’s lawyer for the owner, Rajender Singh, dismissed the abuse allegations as baseless and said there was no suicide note naming anyone responsible. He described the situation as very unfortunate and added that both families had decided to cremation together as a sign of respect, while reiterating cooperation with the police. Authorities have sent the body for a post-mortem and autopsy, with investigators conducting interviews and gathering more information. Deepti Chaurasia is survived by two children, and the probe is ongoing to determine the exact cause of death and any contributing factors.
