The Bihar assembly election is in the final stretch as Phase 2 voting is set for Tuesday, November 11. Phase 2 will cover 122 seats across the state, following a first phase that saw turnout reach a record 65 percent; results for Phase 2 are expected on November 14.
On the closing day of campaigning, top leaders hit the trail to sharpen their messages. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and the leader of the opposition Rahul Gandhi led high-profile campaigns in different pockets of the state. Gandhi addressed 15 meetings in Kishanganj and Purnea in the Seemanchal region, urging the youth and Gen Z to exercise vigilance at polling booths to safeguard their future. Shah spent the day in Sasaram and Arwal, areas where the BJP has been keen to press its case and shore up votes ahead of Phase 2.
Several seats are drawing attention in this phase, including Sumit Kumar Singh’s Chakai, Shreyasi Singh’s Jamui, Leshi Singh’s Dhamdaha, and Neeraj Kumar Singh’s Chhatapur. Analysts note that these constituencies could be pivotal in determining the overall outcome, given their history and local dynamics.
The Seemanchal belt, with its sizable Muslim population, is especially watched by the INDIA bloc, which has focused its outreach on voters in this region. In a broader national context, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a separate rally drive during the campaign, attacked the Opposition over what he called jungle raj, underscoring the high-stakes nature of Bihar’s electoral contest as parties vie for 122 seats in Phase 2 and the possibility of forming the next government.
As voters prepare to head to the polls, observers say turnout, booth security, and the performance of the major alliances will shape the post-poll narrative.
