Fans of the late Mac Miller are getting a special treat with the release of "Butterflies," a previously-unheard song from the beloved rapper. This hypnotic, mid-tempo track offers a glimpse into Miller's creative process and will be featured on the upcoming “The Divine Feminine (10th Anniversary)” edition, set to drop on October 2. The anniversary album will include two other unreleased songs, whose titles are yet to be announced, building excitement among his dedicated fanbase.
"Butterflies" was brought to life with production by Taylor Graves, featuring the distinctive basslines of Miller’s long-time collaborator Thundercat and the smooth trumpet work of Daniel Hardaway. The lyrics delve into themes of a blossoming love connection, with Miller crooning lines like: “Better drive slow/ If you wanna take a ride on the high road/ And your mind so passionate, your love what I’m after and/ That feelin’ so unfamiliar, I only imagine it/ Dream girl, you’re my make-believe girl.” It's a poignant reminder of his lyrical depth and emotional honesty.
Alongside the new music, the Mac Miller estate has launched an innovative new website. Designed in collaboration with James Musgrave and Kate Doyle for XXIX, the site serves as an interactive tribute to Miller’s life and artistic journey. It features a rich collection of archival media, contributed by friends and colleagues who were part of his world throughout the years, offering a unique retrospective for fans old and new.
“The Divine Feminine,” Miller's fourth studio album, originally debuted in 2016. It was notable for its impressive roster of collaborators, including Kendrick Lamar, Anderson .Paak, CeeLo Green, Ty Dolla Sign, and even Ariana Grande, who appeared on the single “My Favorite Part.” While the album received mixed reviews upon its initial release, with some critics noting a perceived clash between “grown-ass beats” and “juvenile boasts,” its 10th-anniversary edition is poised to reignite conversations and appreciation for this significant body of work. Fans can pre-order the album now to celebrate a decade of "The Divine Feminine" and immerse themselves in Mac Miller’s enduring legacy.
