Kadapa drug ring busted; 23.6 kg ganja, 1,620 tablets seized; nine held

Police busted a nine-member drug-peddling gang in Kadapa after a raid near DTC Circle, seizing 23,580 g of ganja valued at ₹1.15 lakh and 1,620 Tapedac 100 mg tablets worth ₹96,000. Two mobile phones were recovered from the accused.

The main accused, Surabhi Mahesh, carries a long criminal record with multiple cases including murder, vehicle theft, kidnapping, robbery, attempt-to-murder, and various ganja cases across Pulivendula, Proddatur, Tirupati, Chapadu, Pendlimarry, Siddavatam, Jammalamadugu and Kadapa. He was also implicated in an NDPS case at Chikkaballapur in Karnataka, and a rowdy sheet is being maintained against him at Chinna Chowk police station. During an earlier jail term, he came into contact with a ganja supplier identified as Indrajith from Odisha. After his release, Mahesh formed a new gang involving other accused and built a network for procurement, transport, and distribution of ganja. He allegedly conspired with Nagendra, a medical shop owner from Kurnool, to procure and illegally sell Tapedac 100 mg tablets to youth along with ganja.

The gang members regularly shared the proceeds of their lavish lifestyle. As per the instructions of the SP, police kept surveillance on the group. On receiving credible information that the accused had gathered near DTC Circle to sell 23,580 g of ganja on Friday afternoon, RIMS Inspector B. Ramakrishna Reddy with Sub-Inspector Subash Chandra Bose and their team conducted a raid and arrested them.

This operation underscores the ongoing challenge of narcotics trafficking and the sustained efforts by law enforcement to dismantle networks that mix cannabis with habit-forming tablets, targeting vulnerable youth and communities.
