Ronaldo Shocks Portugal Camp, Leaves Ahead of Denmark Clash! 😮⚽
Cristiano Ronaldo unexpectedly departs Portugal's national team camp, citing reasons he'll reveal "in time." Coach denies rift, but what's really going on? Find out here!
Portuguese football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has sensationally left the national team's training camp in Denmark, just days before their UEFA Nations League fixture against Denmark. The abrupt departure has sent shockwaves through the football world, with fans and pundits alike speculating about the reasons behind his decision.
Hours before Ronaldo's announcement, national team head coach Jorge Jesus had publicly denied any rift with the five-time Ballon d'Or winner. Jesus addressed earlier claims that Ronaldo had refused to train, explaining that the player had been doing individual exercises for "mobility" and "strengthening" and was expected to train normally later in the week.
The situation escalated after Portugal's 2-1 victory over Norway in Olso, a match where Ronaldo did not feature. Reports noted that the Al-Nassr forward did not join his teammates in celebrating with the fans after the final whistle, instead heading straight to the changing rooms.
Coach Jesus had previously informed Ronaldo that he would not be starting the Norway match but might be brought on as a substitute, a decision he ultimately chose not to make.
Following these events, Ronaldo was seen leaving Parken stadium in Denmark with members of the backroom staff.
He later took to Instagram to confirm his departure.
In his post, Ronaldo stated,
After the press conference of the national team and following a conversation with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, I have decided to leave the national team training camp.
He added, ominously, "In time, I will tell all the Portuguese the truth about the reasons that motivated me to leave," while wishing his teammates good luck for their upcoming games.
Coach Jesus had indicated that Goncalo Ramos, who scored the winner against Norway, would be preferred over Ronaldo for the upcoming match against Denmark. The Portuguese Football Federation swiftly confirmed Ronaldo's departure in a statement, emphasizing that "Preparation for the two matches against Denmark and Norway continue as planned with the 24 remaining squad members.
The entire delegation remains totally focussed on the national team's next fixtures and on achieving the established objectives."
Ronaldo had previously considered retiring from international football after the World Cup but chose to continue his pursuit of 1,000 career goals. His unexpected exit now leaves many questions unanswered as Portugal prepares for crucial Nations League encounters.
