A gun attack interrupted a live kabaddi match in Mohali when unidentified gunmen opened fire on the teams playing on the field in Sector 82. Rana Balachauria, a 30-year-old promoter and player, was fatally shot in the head and face.
Kanwar Digvijay Singh, better known as Rana Balachauria, had organized the event and was due to play. He was rushed to Fortis Hospital in Mohali at 6:05 pm and declared dead.
Witnesses said a group of men arrived in a Mahindra Bolero and opened fire as teams were entering the field, then fled. A video clip circulating online reportedly captures the moment gunshots are heard.
The clip was shared by political figures and used to criticize law and order, with some posts alleging links to rival gangs and a motive linked to Sidhu Moosewala's murder.
Police say investigations are underway as Punjab officials call for calm and a review of security at public sporting events.
