Mother Charged With Murder of 18-Day-Old Baby in Central London
A 43-year-old mother has been charged with murder after an 18-day-old baby girl fell from a Westminster property on Horseferry Road. Investigators are probing the circumstances.
A 43-year-old woman, Zahira Byjaouane, was arrested on Saturday after reports that an 18-day-old baby girl had fallen from a property on Horseferry Road in Westminster, central London. The infant was treated at the scene and later pronounced dead at a major trauma centre.
On Sunday police announced that Byjaouane has been charged with murder. She has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Westminster magistrates court on Monday.
Forensic officers were seen in a third-floor flat at the Peabody Estate as a police cordon remained in place on Saturday evening. Flowers and a toy animal were left near the estate on Sunday as the investigation continues.
Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the infant's death and speaking to witnesses as they work to establish how the baby came to fall from height.
