After a memorable five-year journey, Argentina international Cristian Romero has officially confirmed his departure from Tottenham, set to join Spanish giants Atletico Madrid. The move is reportedly valued at 40 million euros (£34.1m), with an additional 15 per cent sell-on clause included in the deal. Romero's tenure in north London was certainly eventful.
Across 156 appearances, the defender often divided opinion, yet he etched his name into Spurs' history books. Most notably, he was crowned Man of the Match in the 2025 Europa League final against Manchester United, a triumph that spectacularly ended the club's 17-year trophy drought.
In an emotional Instagram post, Romero reflected on his time at Tottenham, calling it "much more than a club" and a place where he and his family built a significant part of their lives.

he shared, emphasizing his initial dream to leave a lasting legacy.
