In a significant development for national security, the West Bengal Special Task Force (STF) has apprehended two individuals, including a suspected Pakistani national, near the India-Bangladesh border. The primary suspect, identified as Rana Rauf alias Wahab Alam, a resident of Faisalabad, Pakistan, was arrested from Bangaon in the North 24 Parganas district on Wednesday.
Investigators suspect that Rauf has direct links with Pakistan's intelligence agency, ISI. Authorities are now thoroughly examining his activities, contacts, and movements across India. According to officials, Rauf illegally entered India in 2012 through Nepal, where he had reportedly stayed for some time before settling in West Bengal.
Alarmingly, Rauf was allegedly tracking the movements of various trains and armed forces within the country. An STF officer stated, "We are also trying to ascertain what kind of information he was collecting and whether it was being passed on to anyone outside the country." This raises serious concerns about potential espionage activities.
In connection with the case, another individual was arrested from Topsia late on Tuesday. This person allegedly had direct contact with Rauf and provided him assistance in several ways, though their identity has not yet been disclosed. The STF is currently questioning this individual to determine the extent of their association with Rauf and to uncover if other accomplices were involved in the operation.
