MTG backs Tucker Carlson for 2028, challenging Trump

Former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has made an early endorsement for the Republican ticket in 2028, and it isn't likely going to sit well with President Donald Trump. On Friday, Greene praised former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who, like her, has been an outspoken critic of Trump's war on Iran. "I SUPPORT TUCKER," Greene wrote on social media. "Trump doesn't even know what MAGA is anymore and turned it into MIGA [Make Iran Great Again]. Trump is not America First, he's donor first," she wrote. She went on to say that she would vote for Carlson as president — and believes he'd beat Trump. "Tucker would beat Trump if he ran for President and Trump tried to violate the constitution and tried to run again for a third term," she wrote.

Greene's comments came after Carlson criticized Trump's Iran policy, calling the war 'absolutely disgusting and evil.' Carlson, when asked about Trump, said, "There are times I get annoyed with Trump, right now definitely included," but added, "I'll always love him no matter what he says about me." Carlson has teased the idea of a possible presidential run, though never in a serious way.

Trump fired back, saying, "Tucker has lost his way," and that "MAGA is saving our country. MAGA is making our country great again. MAGA is America first, and Tucker is none of those things. And Tucker is really not smart enough to understand that," he added.

The exchange underscores a potential rift within the MAGA coalition as 2028 approaches, with Greene signaling openness to a rival voice within the movement and Carlson's possible candidacy lingering as a future possibility. Analysts say endorsements like Greene's could shift early primary chatter and indicate a broader appetite for leadership beyond Trump, complicating the path to a seamless MAGA front-runner.
