President Donald Trump heads to Asia for a five-day swing that takes him to Malaysia, Japan and South Korea, his first visit to the region and his longest journey abroad since taking office. The itinerary signals a push to lock in trade deals, secure access to critical minerals, and advance a potential ceasefire agenda in global flashpoints, all before a long-awaited face-to-face with China's Xi Jinping.

On the table: a tougher stance on technology and tariffs. Trump has floated a 100% tariff on Chinese imports starting Nov. 1 or sooner and has warned Beijing to come prepared.
