Sensex jumps 485 points; Nifty above 25,850 on trade optimism
Markets rally on trade deal optimism as Sensex climbs 485 points to 84,065 and Nifty sits above 25,850, with broad gains across mid and small caps.
Indian equity benchmarks extended gains for the second consecutive session, riding on trade deal optimism and renewed foreign fund inflows. The Sensex climbed 485.35 points, or 0.58 per cent, to close at 84,065.75, while the Nifty50 gained 173.60 points, or 0.68 per cent, to 25,867.30.
Broad market strength outpaced the frontline indices, with the Nifty Midcap index rising about 1.58 per cent and the Nifty Smallcap index surging 2.64 per cent, as investors rotated into consumer durables, real estate, cement, capital goods, textiles, and consumer discretionary stocks following expectations of demand revival and supportive union-budget cues.
Analysts attributed the rally to signs of progress on the India–US trade deal and renewed FII inflows, creating a risk-on mood. Traders were watchful for upcoming company results, especially from PSU banks which delivered stronger-than-anticipated performance, helping the PSU bank index outperform.
While the early uptick sparked enthusiasm, experts cautioned participation remained selective and that earnings momentum and global cues would determine whether the rally sustains. The India–US framework news, along with supportive cues from broader Asian markets, helped sustain momentum through the session.
