Fuel Prices Surge Again! Petrol and Diesel See Third Hike This Month

Fuel costs are climbing once again, marking the third increase in just eight days. On Saturday, prices for petrol and diesel rose by an average of 90 paise per litre across the country, affecting all variants of the fuel. This latest adjustment follows a pattern of rising energy costs that has seen rates go up by nearly ₹5 per litre since mid-May.
In the national capital, petrol now costs ₹99.51 per litre after an 87-paise increase, while diesel has crossed the ₹92 mark, settling at ₹92.49 per litre. It is not just the liquid fuels getting more expensive; Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) users in North India are also feeling the pinch. CNG prices rose by ₹1 per kg, bringing the rate in Delhi to ₹81.09 per kg.
This series of hikes began on May 15 with a significant ₹3 jump, followed by smaller increments on May 19 and May 23. These changes are a direct result of the ongoing conflict in West Asia, which has sent global crude oil prices soaring. Oil marketing companies have been under immense pressure to manage daily losses, which are currently estimated at around ₹750 crore even after these price corrections.
Metropolitan cities like Kolkata are reportedly seeing even steeper hikes compared to others. Premium fuel variants are not exempt either, with high-octane petrol now retailing at over ₹106 per litre in Delhi. As global tensions continue to impact energy supplies, consumers are left navigating a significantly more expensive daily commute.
