On Sunday, July 26, 2026, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh made a resolute statement at the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorations in Dras. Speaking at the Kargil War Memorial, he reiterated India's firm stance that there would be no dialogue with Islamabad except on the issue of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Singh asserted that PoK remains an integral part of India, currently under Pakistan’s illegal occupation, and issued a stern warning against any attempts to undermine India’s sovereignty.
The Defence Minister highlighted the success of “Operation Sindoor” as a testament to India’s capability to respond to any “misadventure” by Pakistan with overwhelming force. He emphasized that India no longer differentiates between terrorists and the governments that support them, directly accusing Pakistan of making terrorism a state policy. Singh contrasted India’s trajectory of focusing on innovation, semiconductors, space technology, and digital payments with Pakistan’s continued promotion of terrorism, infiltration, radicalisation, and proxy warfare.
Mr. Singh affirmed that the Indian government has granted its armed forces a free hand to respond decisively to threats. He expressed strong confidence that no adversary would dare cast a hostile eye on India as long as its soldiers vigilantly guard the borders. The commemorations also served as a solemn occasion to pay tribute to the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil War, including Param Vir Chakra awardees Captain Vikram Batra and Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey. Singh described Kargil Vijay Diwas as a powerful symbol of sacrifice and national resolve.
The event saw tributes from other prominent figures as well. President Murmu and Prime Minister Modi led the nation in honoring the war heroes on the 27th anniversary of ‘Operation Vijay’. Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar also underscored the significance of the soldiers’ sacrifice, stating it forms the very foundation of India’s freedom and security.
