Neutrogena Breaks Silence on Hayden Panettiere's Death Amid Backlash
After days of public outcry, Neutrogena addresses its past treatment of former ambassador Hayden Panettiere, admitting to making her 'feel unsupported' during a difficult time.
Neutrogena has officially responded to the intense public backlash following the recent passing of its former brand ambassador, Hayden Panettiere. The skincare giant issued a statement on Thursday, expressing deep sorrow over the death of the 36-year-old actor.
Panettiere, who was found dead on Sunday, had previously shared that Neutrogena "fired" her in 2015 after she openly discussed her struggle with postpartum depression. These remarks resurfaced in the wake of her death, sparking a wave of criticism against the company across social media platforms and leading to calls for boycotts.
In their statement, posted on social media, Neutrogena acknowledged the situation: "We are deeply saddened by Hayden Panettiere’s passing. For more than a decade, Hayden was a valued member of our Neutrogena community." They continued, "We are proud to have partnered with her and understand that we made her feel unsupported during a very difficult time. This is not what Neutrogena stands for or who we want to be."
The company also announced plans to make a "significant investment to a long-standing community health partner" to support women’s health causes, promising more details soon. They also explained the delay in their public response, stating, "Out of respect for Hayden’s family and loved ones, we did not want to speak out so soon following her passing. Everyone at Neutrogena extends their deepest condolences to Hayden’s family and all who loved her."
Despite comments being turned off on their new statement, Neutrogena’s older posts remain flooded with messages from users condemning the brand, demanding accountability, and urging consumers to boycott the products. Panettiere had detailed the termination of her long-standing contract in her upcoming 2026 memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, linking it directly to her public discussions about mental health treatment for postpartum depression after her daughter Kaya was born in 2014.
