Why I'm Starting a Gender Euphoria Log
Why I'm Starting a Gender Euphoria Log
Trans stories shouldn't just be about the struggle. Let's talk about the radical act of joy, from that first look in the mirror to the simple magic of living your truth every single day.
The Moment Everything Clicked
I remember standing in my bathroom about six months ago. The lighting was objectively terrible. It was that specific kind of fluorescent glow that usually makes everyone look like a tired potato.
But as I leaned in to check a stray hair, something happened. For the first time in my life, I didn't see a stranger or a mask. I saw Yash.
It wasn't a dramatic movie moment with a swelling orchestra. It was quiet.
I saw the digital artist who stays up too late sketching.
I saw the INFJ bookworm who cries over queer romance arcs. I saw me . That was my first real entry in what I now call my Gender Euphoria Logs.
Why We Need to Log the Joy
If you consume mainstream media, you might think being trans is a constant cycle of tragedy and debate. While the struggles are real, they aren't the whole story. I started keeping these logs because I realized that my joy is actually a radical act.
Choosing to be happy and soft in a world that often demands we be resilient and hardened is a form of protest.
I want to document the sparks. We spend so much time analyzing the dysphoria that we forget to celebrate the euphoria. When we focus only on the pain, we tell younger queer kids that their future is just a series of hurdles.
I want them to know about the finish lines too.
The Magic of the Mundane
Gender euphoria isn't always about the big stuff like surgeries or legal name changes.
Most of the time, it is found in the mundane corners of a Tuesday afternoon.
Here are a few things currently in my log:
- The T-shirt win: Wearing a plain grey shirt and realizing it finally sits on my shoulders the way I always imagined it should.
- The Coffee Shop: Hearing my name called out at the cafe and not feeling that tiny, internal flinch for the first time in a decade.
- The Routine: Putting on moisturizer and feeling like I am actually caring for my skin rather than just maintaining a suit I am forced to wear.
These moments are small, but they are heavy with meaning. They are the building blocks of a life well-lived.
Choosing Bliss Over Burden
As someone who spends a lot of time in fictional worlds and alternative romance arcs, I used to think my own happy ending was something I had to write into a script. I didn't realize I could live it. Transitioning has been about shedding the weight of everyone else's expectations to find the light underneath.
If you are out there and feeling like the struggle is all there is, I promise you there is more. Start your own log.
Find one tiny thing today that made you feel like yourself.
Maybe it is the way you styled your hair or a specific song that makes you feel seen. Hold onto that. Our joy is not a distraction; it is the whole point of the journey.
