Washington — US secretary of state Marco Rubio has said the military operation against Iran is expected to wrap up in weeks, not months, a timeline he described after meeting G7 ministers in France. The statement comes as Israel vows to expand attacks on Iran and Tehran continues firing missiles toward Israel.
Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis have claimed an attack on Israel for the first time since the war escalated, signaling a potential broadening of the conflict. The Houthis said their strikes target infrastructure across Iran, Lebanon, Iraq and the Palestinian territories, pledging to keep pressuring what they call aggression on all fronts.
Reports from US media said an Iranian attack hit a base in Saudi Arabia, wounding at least 12 American soldiers, two of them seriously. The Prince Sultan airbase attack involved a missile and several drones, with aerial refueling planes also damaged, according to the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal citing unidentified officials.
Officials in Washington have given mixed signals about how long the joint offensive with Israel will continue after it began with a surprise strike on Feb. 28 that killed Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei.
Iran remains defiant, and officials say the conflict could broaden further, risking disruption to energy flows and shipping lanes in the region.
