Tuchel Addresses England Injury Crisis: Konsa & Scott Sidelined!
England boss Thomas Tuchel clarifies Ezri Konsa's "light trauma" & Alex Scott's "strange" injury after international break. Arsenal concerns mount, as Tuchel defends his management amidst setbacks for key players.
Thomas Tuchel, the England manager, has stepped forward to address growing concerns surrounding player injuries following the recent international break, particularly regarding defenders Ezri Konsa and promising midfielder Alex Scott. The Gunners, in particular, are feeling the pinch, with a number of their players returning with knocks. Tuchel clarified the situation surrounding Ezri Konsa, who had withdrawn from the England squad.
Konsa reportedly felt “discomfort” upon arriving at the England camp but managed to play the full 90 minutes against Spain.
His condition worsened slightly, leading him to sit out the victory against the Czech Republic, which Standard Sport understands was due to a dead leg. Despite this, he was given the all-clear for the Croatia match, completing another 90 minutes.
However, a new knock during that game has prompted his return to his club for treatment. Tuchel reassured that it's “nothing major but not worth the risk taking.” The situation with Alex Scott, however, appears more serious and “strange,” according to Tuchel. Scott had trained fully before the Croatia game, even doing extra work, and had received green lights from himself and the medical team despite ongoing treatment.
During the match, when asked if he wanted to come off due to slight discomfort, Scott reportedly declined, stating after the game that he could have played the full 90 minutes and didn't feel injured. Yet, post-match scans revealed an injury that could sideline the midfielder for up to two months, a significant blow for both club and country.
Tuchel expressed his sadness over the situation, emphasizing that “zero risk was taken from our side.” These injury updates come amidst discussions about Tuchel's “appetite for youth,” with earlier reports suggesting Scott's superb debut against Croatia could position him to challenge Declan Rice for a starting role. While Tuchel's commitment to new talent is evident, these recent setbacks highlight the delicate balance between player development and managing fitness in a demanding international schedule.
