On Monday afternoon, the three MLAs—Maragatham Kumaravel from Madurantakam, S. Jayakumar from Perundurai, and P. Sathyabama from Dharapuram—visited the Secretariat in Chennai. They met with the Legislative Assembly Speaker, J.C.D. Prabhakar, to submit their formal resignation letters. The Speaker accepted their resignations almost immediately, confirming their departure from the assembly.
The drama didn't end there. Within minutes of stepping out of the Speaker's office, the trio reportedly met with Public Works Department Minister Aadhav Arjuna, a key figure in Vijay's TVK. They were promptly inducted into the party, a transition so swift that opposition leaders have called it a carefully choreographed performance. This shift has reduced the AIADMK’s strength in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly to just 44 seats.
AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami did not hold back his frustration, labeling the event as 'vulgar politics' and 'horse trading.' He criticized the ruling TVK for what he described as underhanded dealings to bolster their numbers. Palaniswami remarked that resigning on the ground floor and joining a new party on the first floor of the same building exposed the pre-meditated nature of the move. He dismissed the attempt to replace the AIADMK as a 'dream' that would never come true.
The political landscape in Tamil Nadu is currently buzzing with speculation.
