Princess Catherine Returns to Cancer Hospital After Charity Climb! 💪
Princess Catherine revisits the Royal Marsden after her Three Peaks Challenge, celebrating holistic cancer care. Discover her personal message of gratitude and support for patients.
Princess Catherine, Princess of Wales, recently made a deeply personal visit to the Royal Marsden in London, the very hospital where she received treatment for cancer. Her return wasn't just to reminisce but to witness firsthand how the funds she courageously raised through an earlier charity climb are making a tangible difference to patients.
Earlier this year, Catherine undertook the demanding Three Peaks Challenge, conquering the highest peaks in England, Scotland, and Wales within a 24-hour window. While the exact amount raised remains undisclosed, these efforts are now funding a vital new unit at the Royal Marsden.
This new center is dedicated to offering complementary healing and holistic support, working hand-in-hand with traditional clinical care to provide a more comprehensive recovery path for cancer patients.
During her visit, Catherine expressed profound gratitude to the staff, stating,
This was my small way of being able to give back and say thank you.
She engaged with both staff and patients, emphasizing the critical importance of support that extends beyond the purely physical. "I had incredible care here and support from a huge team and I'm really, really grateful on a personal level," she shared, highlighting the holistic care, therapeutic support, and the positive impact of nature and good nutrition during challenging medical treatments.
She sat down with patients undergoing various treatments, including those with breast cancer, head and neck cancer, and brain tumors. One patient poignantly remarked, "When you first get cancer, you're very aware of the physical impact...
The mental impact comes after." He underscored the "lifesaver" role of hospital therapists, acknowledging that "there is only so much you can say to your friends and family." Catherine fully resonated with this sentiment, noting, "Cancer is not just the physical changes your body is going through. There's a mind-body aspect that changes who you are... having professionals who can help you navigate that is really essential."
Another patient shared her experience of feeling aged from 46 to "like I was 86" due to treatment. Catherine, who announced her remission in January 2025, agreed with the need to support the whole person, explaining that holistic treatment aids patients in adjusting to the profound "lifestyle change that cancer has brought." She also heard from a patient inspired to seek new experiences post-diagnosis, affirming the importance of "making the most of life."
One patient spoke of his appreciation for Catherine's visit, particularly given her own experience.
I forgot that she was a princess. I was just talking to every other cancer patient who has been in this ward,
he recalled, highlighting the unique connection forged within the cancer community.
"You all become friends, part of a community, and I was talking to her on that level, rather than the Princess of Wales."
The funds raised by her arduous mountain climbs will now establish The Centre for Holistic Wellbeing and Recovery. This center aims to foster a broader sense of recovery for cancer patients, addressing their emotional, spiritual, and social well-being beyond just physical healing. Catherine had previously described the challenge as a "chance to explore life beyond diagnosis," while also giving back to a cause so close to her heart.
