Late Wednesday night, in Shiv Vatika Township's Sagarshree Enclave in Indore, an 18-year-old is suspected of ramming his car into residents after a dispute over a penthouse rental arranged through an online platform. A 38-year-old software engineer was killed and a caretaker was injured in the parking area, police said.
The incident unfolded in the MR-11 area as tensions between residents and the car owner's family over the ongoing penthouse guest influx escalated. Local reports say residents had switched off power to the penthouse, prompting the owner to come downstairs; in retaliation, it is claimed the family cut power to nearby flats, prompting the car owner to drive at speed into the crowd.
The driver, Mohit Chaudhary, and his father Kuldeep Chaudhary were arrested the following day. CCTV footage circulated on social media, showing the car hitting a female staff caretaker and then the crowd. The deceased has been identified as a software engineer; investigators are examining Airbnb logs and booking records to verify guest details and establish motive. Police have registered murder and attempted murder charges and are pursuing all leads as they seek to determine what triggered the confrontation.
Authorities stressed that the investigation includes collecting booking data from the online rental platform and interviewing residents and witnesses to reconstruct the sequence of events. The case has raised questions about safety protocols in residential complexes and the enforcement of rental platforms’ listings in urban India.
