Actor and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has been formally inducted into Kenjutsu, the umbrella term for all schools of classical Japanese swordsmanship. He was conferred with Fifth Dan by the Sogo Budo Kanri Kai, a respected authority in traditional martial arts, marking a global recognition of his three decades of disciplined training, study, and commitment to martial arts traditions.
Kalyan’s journey began in Chennai, where he trained in karate and related disciplines, building a strong technical base and a philosophical foundation that informs his practice today.
Over time, his pursuit evolved into a deeper study of Japanese Samurai martial art traditions, with formal instruction in Kendo under renowned Budo authority Hanshi professor Dr. Siddiq Mahmoodi, and recognition through additional honors. He was the first Telugu-speaking person to be inducted into the Takeda Shingen Clan outside Japan and was felicitated by the Golden Dragons organization with the title 'Tiger of Martial Arts'.
This milestone cements him as one of the few Indian public figures to bridge cinema, classical martial arts, and martial philosophy on an international stage, a point echoed by officials and martial arts communities.
