NBW Issued Against Pak Handler Sajid Jatt in Pahalgam Attack, NIA Says
NIA links Sajid Jatt to the Pahalgam assault; Jammu court issues NBW as a massive chargesheet unfolds.
A Jammu court issued a non-bailable warrant against Saifullah alias Sajid Jatt, a Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba/The Resistance Front handler, at the request of the National Investigation Agency. The agency has filed a 1,500-page chargesheet in the Pahalgam attack case, linking Pakistan to the conspiracy. Sajid Jatt, who is also known by aliases such as Ali Bhai, Habibullah Malik, Langda, Usman Habib and Numan, was designated a terrorist by the Union home ministry in 2022. He is described as an active LeT operative operating from Pakistan, providing weapons, money and moral support to terrorists active in the Kashmir Valley. He reportedly joined LeT in 1998 and was active in Yaripora, Kulgam, before leaving Kashmir in 2006.
The NBW ties him to the April 22 Pahalgam attack at the Baisaran meadow, an assault that killed 26 civilians. Jatt maintained regular contact with other terrorists—Faisal Jatt alias Suleman Shah, Habeeb Tahir alias Jibran, and Hamza Afghani—who were involved in the attack. The NIA’s case further contends that LeT and elements of Pakistan’s army/ISI were involved in protecting him. The incident, which unfolded in the scenic resort area, nearly brought India and Pakistan to the brink of war.
The chargesheet, described by outlets as a multi-thousand-page document, names seven accused, including the Pak handler Sajid Jatt and three Pakistani terrorists killed by Indian security forces during earlier operations. It also includes two locals who harbored them. The investigation continues as the case progresses in court, with the NBW granting authorities leverage to pursue Jatt’s detention or extradition as appropriate.
