The Hyderabad Excise Enforcement team has made a significant breakthrough in the city's fight against drugs. Six people were caught red-handed with over 16 kg of marijuana in a raid conducted at Chapel Road. The seized contraband is estimated to have a street value of around ₹16 lakh.
The investigation reveals that the drugs were smuggled all the way from Odisha in a car. The main accused, 32-year-old Ghulam Rasool, who is a native of Odisha, allegedly orchestrated the transport. The group didn't just stop at smuggling; they were caught trying to sell the illegal substances to local vendors, including tea, coffee, and snack stall owners in the area.
Alongside Rasool, five other locals from Nampally—Mahmood Khan, Chand Bai, Bismillah Khan, S.K. Mujahid, and Tajuddin Khan—were taken into custody. During the operation, officials also seized ₹14,500 in cash, the car used for the long-distance haul, and six mobile phones.
The entire operation highlights the ongoing efforts to keep Hyderabad's streets safe. The accused and the seized items have been handed over to the Narayanaguda Excise Station for further investigation. It is a stark reminder of the vigilance required to curb illegal trade in our neighborhoods.
