Timothy Busfield’s role in the Amazon MGM rom-com You Deserve Each Other is being cut from the final release as he faces multiple charges. The film stars Penn Badgley and Meghann Fahy, and filming has already wrapped, with editors removing Busfield’s scenes.
Busfield, 68, is currently in a New Mexico jail, held without bond ahead of a pretrial detention hearing. He faces two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and one count of child abuse. He surrendered to authorities January 13 after an arrest warrant was issued January 9. Authorities allege unlawful sexual conduct with 11-year-old twin boys who met Busfield on the set of The Cleaning Lady.
In the movie, Busfield played Bernie, the father of Fahy’s character. Since his scenes were shot earlier, the decision was made to edit the actor out of the finished film.
Busfield has denied the accusations, calling them “horrible” and “all lies,” while remaining in custody.
The development marks the second project tied to the same allegations to be affected, underscoring the far-reaching impact of the case on Busfield’s career. As the legal process unfolds, producers say there will be no changes to the film’s release schedule until further notice.
