Wayanad Tragedy: Race Against Time to Find Missing Project Manager After Deadly Landslide

Wayanad, Kerala, A desperate search is underway for Bikram Singh Rana, a project manager from Himachal Pradesh, who remains unaccounted for following a massive debris slide at the under-construction Wayanad twin-tunnel road project in Kalladi. The devastating landslide, which struck earlier this week, has already claimed seven lives, with the latest recovery being 24-year-old Rakesh Guchait, a project surveyor from West Bengal, identified on Friday (July 10).

A joint task force, comprising the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Fire and Rescue Services, State police, and local volunteers, has been deployed to the disaster site in Meppadi. Emergency workers are utilizing heavy earthmoving machinery to excavate deep mud and wreckage, estimated to be between 7 and 10 feet deep, in their relentless efforts to locate Mr. Rana. Authorities have systematically divided the disaster area into four operational sectors, with current efforts concentrating on Zone I and Zone II to trace the missing manager.

The search operations face significant challenges from intermittent monsoon showers, which render the unstable terrain even more hazardous. Despite these difficulties, rescue authorities have firmly stated that operations will continue without pause until the final missing worker is found. The commitment underscores the gravity of the situation and the hope to bring closure to the affected families.

Basheer, and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, indicating the state's serious attention to the disaster and its aftermath.
