BJP Set to Roll Out Nationwide ‘GST Savings Week’ from September 22–29
From Sept 22-29, BJP plans pad yatras in markets nationwide to highlight GST savings and transparency, connect with traders and shoppers, and mobilize grassroots support ahead of the holiday season.
From September 22 to September 29, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will begin a nationwide campaign called the "GST Savings Festival." Every BJP MP has been instructed to plan pad yatras, or foot marches, in the marketplaces of their respective districts as part of this unique initiative.

In order to raise awareness of the advantages of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and highlight how it has aided in economic savings and transparency, the party hopes to establish direct connections with traders, retailers, and the general public through this program.
It is anticipated that party leaders and workers from many states will participate in large numbers during the week-long campaign. The BJP intends to engage small business owners and expand its grassroots outreach by holding pad yatras in local markets, showcasing trade and commerce-friendly government policies. This initiative, which takes place before the holiday season, highlights the BJP's emphasis on grassroots economic messaging and public engagement.

The 56th GST council meeting earlier this month decided to combine the 12 and 28 percent rates into two slabs of 5 and 18 percent in order to rationalize the GST rates. The five percent slab includes necessities like food and kitchen items like butter, ghee, cheese, dairy spreads, pre-packaged namkeens, bhujia, mixtures, and utensils; agricultural equipment like sprinklers, drip irrigation systems, bio-pesticides, micronutrients, soil preparation machines, harvesting tools, tractors, and tractor tires; handicrafts and small businesses like sewing machines and their parts; and health and wellness items like diagnostic kits and medical equipment.

All auto parts are subject to the same 18 percent rate, even though the 18 percent slab includes a standard rate for the majority of goods and services, such as consumer goods like electronics, household goods, and some professional services, as well as automobiles like small cars and motorcycles (up to 350 cc). A 40% slab is also set aside for luxury and sinful goods, such as pan masala and tobacco, cigarettes, bidis, and aerated sugary drinks, as well as luxury cars, yachts, helicopters, and high-end motorcycles larger than 350cc.
Additionally, there is no GST on health and life insurance premiums, individual health, family floater, and life insurance, as well as certain services associated with education and healthcare. These essential services and educational items are also completely exempt from GST.
