A vacation took a terrifying turn for a tourist in Dandeli, Karnataka, when a zipline incident at a local resort left him with multiple fractures. Kuber Surapur, visiting from Vijayapura, reportedly fell approximately 40 feet after the safety equipment on the zipline at Sterling Rover Resort allegedly snapped on July 3. The dramatic fall, captured on video by his brother, has since gone viral, sparking widespread concern over adventure sports safety.
Surapur initially received treatment in Dandeli before being transferred to a private hospital in Vijayapura. He has since undergone multiple surgeries at a hospital in Miraj to address his severe injuries. His family has squarely laid the blame on the resort management, terming the incident a clear case of negligence. They argue that regular checks of safety mechanisms could have easily prevented such a grave accident. Furthermore, the family alleges that the resort management has not upheld its earlier promise to cover medical expenses.
In response, the Sterling Rover Resort management acknowledged the incident but clarified that they consider it an accident and assert that all safety protocols were diligently followed. They have informed media persons of their intention to meet with the family soon to discuss and address their concerns. As of now, no official police complaint has been filed regarding the incident. This unfortunate event has once again brought the critical importance of stringent safety standards in adventure tourism into sharp focus, especially following reports of similar incidents in other parts of Karnataka.
