Nitish Kumar to Take Oath as Bihar CM on Nov 20; Modi to Attend

After the NDA’s resounding victory in the Bihar Assembly polls, Nitish Kumar is all set to take the oath as chief minister on November 20. The ceremony is planned at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top BJP leaders expected to attend.

Kumar is likely to submit his resignation to the Governor on Monday, paving the way for the formation of the new government. In Delhi, NDA allies signaled confidence in a cabinet formula designed to reflect the alliance’s mandate, with the BJP set to hold the largest number of berths. Kumar’s return to the chief minister’s chair will mark a significant continuity of leadership under the NDA banner, while new faces are expected to feature in the cabinet.

Based on discussions, the cabinet could number 32 to 36 ministers. The proposed distribution includes about 14 ministers from the BJP, 13 from the JD(U), three from the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), and one each from Hindustani Awaam Morcha (Secular) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha. The Speaker’s post is likely to go to the BJP. There are indications that two Deputy Chief Ministers may be named, with Samrat Choudhary likely to retain his post, while other names are reportedly in consideration.

All eyes are now on the oath ceremony, described by party leaders in Delhi and Patna as a grand show matching the NDA’s landslide victory. The current assembly’s term ends on November 22, and the government formation process is expected to be completed before then. Observers will watch how the cabinet balances experience with new faces to deliver Bihar’s developmental agenda.
