PM Modi hails Sahibzade sacrifice and pledges to end colonial-era 'slave mentality' within 10 years as Veer Baal Diwas is observed.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Veer Baal Diwas praised the Sahibzade's supreme sacrifice as a symbol of India's courage against religious fanaticism. Speaking at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi, he said their story, long suppressed by a colonial mindset, is being brought to the forefront once again.
Modi argued that the struggle represented not just history but the enduring values of the nation. He asserted that India must break free from the 'mentality of slavery' and that, in ten years, the country will shed this mindset. He linked the revival of linguistic diversity to strength, saying Macaulay's policies sought to crush India's language variety but the nation is now reclaiming it as a source of unity.
He paid tribute to Sahibzade Ajit Singh, Jujhar Singh, Zorawar Singh, and Fateh Singh—young martyrs whose courage continues to inspire Mata Gujri, Guru Gobind Singh, and countless Indians today.
In Amritsar, a youth performed Gatka, an ancient Sikh martial art, during a procession on the eve of Guru Gobind Singh’s birth anniversary, highlighting the living tradition behind the commemorations.
Veer Baal Diwas has grown since 2022 as a day to remember the brave Sahibzades and reflect on the ideals they embodied.
