Tirumala Laddu Ghee Adulteration Sparks Political Clash Between TDP, YSRCP

Raising the alarm at a press conference in Tirupati, TDP state president Palla Srinivasa Rao accused the YSRCP government of adulterating ghee in the Tirumala laddu prasadam. He called it a betrayal of Hindu faith and cited NDDB findings and other laboratory reports that, he said, left no doubt that adulteration had occurred. He said nearly 20 crore laddus were prepared using close to 68 lakh kg of the so-called ghee, alleging that instead of pure dairy ghee, palm oil, chemical additives, and synthetic compounds were used, all in the name of profit. For Rao, this was not merely a financial irregularity but a direct assault on Hindu sentiments, and he demanded strict punishment for all those responsible, irrespective of their position.

Rao argued the controversy fits into a larger pattern of neglect, pointing to a history of temple attacks across the state during the YSRCP term, with more than 200 such incidents reported and only token cases registered against the perpetrators. He also tied the issue to ongoing national debates, noting the Union Budget’s infrastructure allocations—reported to be over ₹12 lakh crore—as evidence of a growth roadmap under the central government.

On the other side, YSRCP leaders pushed back, urging the public not to be swayed by unverified claims and arguing that the opposition was politicizing a sacred matter. They contended that the government had acted within established procedures and that the assault on the laddu issue was part of a broader political strategy to discredit the administration. A fuller, independent audit of the claims remains a key demand from Rao’s camp and a point of contention in the ongoing political narrative.
