Venice Film Festival 2026: 'Woman Unknown' Takes Golden Lion!

The glamorous 83rd Venice Film Festival has officially wrapped up, and what a spectacular showcase it was! Film enthusiasts and critics alike gathered to celebrate cinematic excellence, culminating in a star-studded awards ceremony that crowned new champions and honored legends.

Taking home the most prestigious award, the Golden Lion, was May el-Toukhy's powerful drama, "Woman Unknown." This significant win marks a momentous occasion, as el-Toukhy becomes the eighth female director to clinch the top prize, further cementing the festival's commitment to diverse storytelling.

Mathilde Arcel, the lead in "Woman Unknown," also earned acclaim, taking home the Volpi Cup for Best Actress.

The Grand Jury Prize was awarded to Lee Chang-dong's thought-provoking film, "Possible Love," which had been a strong contender throughout the festival. The Special Jury Prize went to Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor's searing, Gaza-set documentary, "NAZA," highlighting its profound impact and critical reception.
