9/11 Hijackers' Landlady Breaks Silence: "I Still Struggle"

For 25 years, the haunting memories of a past connection have weighed heavily on Holly Ratchford. Now, for the first time, the San Diego landlady is speaking out publicly, revealing her unwitting link to one of the darkest days in American history: the 9/11 attacks. Ratchford managed a residential complex in San Diego where, in September 1999, a man named Omar al-Bayoumi moved into apartment 152 with his family.

Ratchford recalls Bayoumi as a "bubbly and smiling" individual, very friendly, who quickly became a regular at her pool parties and whose family would invite her over for food. She enjoyed his company, never suspecting the sinister connections that would later emerge. A few months after his arrival, Bayoumi introduced Ratchford to two seemingly unassuming and "polite" men.

These two individuals would tragically become infamous as the hijackers of American Airlines Flight 77, which crashed into the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. The revelation of Bayoumi's alleged involvement and the hijackers' identities has left Ratchford struggling to reconcile the friendly neighbor she knew with the man now accused of ties to such a horrific event.

It's almost impossible for me to wrap my head around who he said he was, and who he really is. I still struggle with that,

she told the BBC. She feels profoundly that she was "taken in" by Bayoumi from the very beginning.

Today, Omar al-Bayoumi stands at the center of a monumental $1 trillion lawsuit. This legal action has been brought against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by thousands of families of victims and survivors of the 9/11 attacks, alleging a connection between Saudi officials and the perpetrators.

The devastating attacks on September 11, 2001, saw 19 members of the extremist al-Qaeda network hijack four passenger aircraft.

Two planes struck the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York, causing their collapse. Another plane crashed into the Pentagon, the US military's headquarters near Washington D.C., and a fourth plummeted into a field in Pennsylvania, forever altering the course of global history.
