Anthrax fans in Europe will see a new face behind the drum kit during the band's highly anticipated tour with Iron Maiden. Longtime drummer Charlie Benante has been forced to temporarily step away from his duties due to a hand injury, as he revealed in a social media post on June 20.
Benante explained the situation to his followers, stating, "I wanted to let everyone know that I unfortunately injured my right hand. Following my doctor’s orders, I’ll be sitting out a handful of shows from June 20 through July 4 to give it the proper time to heal." This temporary absence ensures he can fully recover and return to the stage stronger.
Stepping in to keep the show rolling is UK-based session drummer Darby Todd. Todd is no stranger to the Anthrax camp, having previously played a series of shows with the band in Europe. Benante expressed his gratitude for Todd's willingness to help, saying, "I’m incredibly grateful that Darby Todd will be stepping in behind the kit for these dates and helping keep the shows rolling while I recover. I’m already focused on getting healthy and look forward to being back on the road soon. Thank you all for the support and understanding."
