KTR says SIT notice on Harish Rao is a diversion tactic amid coal-scam row
BRS leader K.T. Rama Rao labels the SIT notice against Harish Rao as diversionary politics amid fresh coal-tender allegations and phone-tapping probes in Telangana.
Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi working president K.T. Rama Rao accused the chief minister of aiming to harass senior BRS leader Harish Rao as retaliation for exposing a coal scam involving the CM’s brother-in-law. He argued the move comes amid a wider probe into a phone-tapping case and dismissed it as a politically motivated distraction.
He said the government has used the SIT inquiry as an attention-diversion tactic whenever the BRS exposes a new scam, pointing to the silence of Union ministers and demanding accountability. He recalled the Supreme Court's earlier dismissal of a case against Harish Rao in the same phone-tapping episode and urged calm as the investigation proceeds.
Rama Rao also claimed the CM’s family tried to influence nine Singareni coal tenders, with bids now showing values higher than estimates after years of underbidding; he alleged bidders were pressured during site visits and warned that many certificates were being withheld.
He asserted that several cabinet colleagues were tied to various corruption allegations and stressed the need for a CBI probe into the coal and tenders matter while continuing to question the Congress on its poll promises. In parallel, reports from Hyderabad noted SIT questioning Harish Rao for seven hours amid tight security, as investigators sought to piece together the evidence.
