AP seeks ₹6,384 crore Centre relief after Cyclone Montha
Andhra Pradesh asks the Centre for ₹6,384 crore relief to rebuild farming, irrigation and infrastructure after Cyclone Montha, including MIS for Totapuri mangoes.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has appealed to the Union Government for substantial financial relief to rebuild agriculture, irrigation, and rural infrastructure damaged by Cyclone Montha.
During a meeting with a Central team led by Union Home Ministry Joint Secretary Pasumi Basu at Velagapudi near Vijayawada, Naidu underscored the need for active Centre support to assist cyclone-affected farmers and those relying on minor irrigation systems. He pressed for a focused plan that strengthens agricultural resilience and accelerates irrigation development across the state.
Naidu requested an allocation of ₹695 crore for 2024–25 and 2025–26 under the PM Krishi Vikas Yojana–Per Drop More Crop (PM-KVY–PDMC) scheme to boost irrigation efficiency and promote sustainable farming practices. He also urged the Centre to release its ₹100-crore share under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) for Totapuri mango farmers, noting that the state government had already provided relief prices and support.
The Chief Minister reiterated the government's commitment to reforms intended to rejuvenate agriculture, rebuild rural infrastructure, and ensure long-term economic stability for farmers. He stressed that with Centre support, farmers can recover swiftly from the cyclone’s impact and see renewed productivity. A central team continues its damage assessment, with a report expected to be submitted to the Union Government at the earliest.
The overarching aim is to accelerate irrigation development and bolster agricultural resilience, ensuring that affected communities regain livelihoods and security in the months ahead.
